City council holds public hearing on Guidiville Band casino plan

Filed Under: California | Casino Stalker

The city council in Richmond, California, held a public hearing this week as it decides the fate of a casino for the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians.

City leaders will vote whether to accept a draft environmental impact statement and environmental impact report for the Point Molate Resort. Then they will decide whether to turn the Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot over to the tribe and its developers.

The council is facing pressure from the public on the issue. In November 2010, voters rejected the casino in a non-binding referendum.

The next public hearing is scheduled for March 8.
